Maligne Lake in Jasper, Alberta

While in Jasper, we decided to visit Maligne Lake. Personally I think Maligne Lake is way more picturesque than Lake Louise.

What causes that amazing blue water?

The water is turquoise because of sediment called “rock flour”. As glaciers slowly moved across the landscape over thousands of years, they would grind away at the underlying rocks producing a fine powder. Its the cause of much of the unusual water colour through-out lakes and streams in the Rockies.
