Yesterday, September 12, 2019, we went to Washington DC. We saw the Washington Monument and the Lincoln memorial. We couldn’t go in it because it was closed for mechanical and electrical reasons.
Built-in the shape of an Egyptian obelisk, the Washington Monument embodies the respect, and the gratitude the nation felt for its most essential Founding Fater. When completed in 1885, the Washington Monument was the tallest building in the world measuring at a staggering 555 feet, 5-1/8 inches or 169 meters. In 2020 the Washington monument will be 135 years old.
Fun Facts about the Washington monument: So it’s illegal for there to be a building that’s taller than the Washington Monument in Washington DC.
There are 50 American flags surrounding the building that represent each state.
It took 30 years to build the Washington monument.
